Murray Hill & New Providence, N.J., U.S., January 29, 2015 – The new CSG-4 Snow Generator from Linde LLC can produce CO2 snow on demand and offer a cost-effective and safer alternative to dry ice pellets.

The CSG-4 Snow Generator is ideal for processors of meat, poultry and seafood, and other raw or fresh foods. With the new CO2 snow generator, plastic or cardboard combo bins can be simply rolled into the enclosure, filled with CO2 snow, and then sent to a downstream processing area. Four Linde proprietary engineered CO2 snow horns gently and uniformly distribute snow into the combo bin -- without costly CO2 loss due to snow “blowout,” encountered with conventional snow horns.

Generating CO2 snow on demand or on a scheduled basis can eliminate dry ice purchases and the associated storage space and handling for dry ice bins, while the efficient use of CO2 lowers operating costs. More importantly, it can reduce the worker safety issues associated with storing, moving and shoveling dry ice by hand. The CSG-4 also includes an integral exhaust enclosure for venting sublimed CO2 gas outdoors, providing a safer indoor environment.

In contrast, stored CO2 pellets continually sublime (essentially vaporize), and dissipate into the surrounding workspace. Carbon dioxide is an asphyxiant and potential inhalation toxicant that can depress the body’s central nervous system.

The CSG-4 Snow Generator is part of a range of CO2 snow generating equipment from Linde that also includes other hooded snow generators, CO2 snow horns, the DRI PACK system for filling boxed meats and perishable goods, and the ACCU-CHILL® Combo Chiller that features an automated loading system for accurate and consistent chilling of meat products packed and shipped in bulk combo bins.

The Linde food team performs in-plant assessments to identify current cost-to-chill and works with processors to develop optimal process solutions. For more information, visit:, or call:  800-755-9277.
